Sex Toy Etiquette in College Dorm Rooms

Back to the grind ;)

You're likely wondering how to use and carry your sex toys with you when you return to your college campus for the new school year. Don't be afraid. All you need is a crash course on dorm room and sex toy etiquette, and you can still have a ton of fun with your sex toys while attending college. That's where we can be of assistance. When you move into your dorm room, follow these guidelines and how-tos.

Storage

Making sure your toys are stored properly is a top priority. Depending on the brand and items you own, a satin baggie or another material storage bag might be included. You must make use of those. Keeping your toys and their chargers organized is another benefit. If you keep them in their storage bag, no one can see your toys. You can purchase a storage case or a satin bag to keep your toys safe if your products don't come with one.

You should keep your toys handy after putting them away in their cases or bags. If you have plastic bins with drawers, keep them in a drawer on your dresser. If you have guests in your room, this extra storage layer can help ensure they don't find your toys and begin touching them.

Usage

It can be challenging to use your toys in a dorm room. To maintain privacy and prevent awkward situations in your dorm, you should talk to your roommate about having sex, whether you are with a partner or not. You will be happy you had the chat, even if it may seem complicated. It is crucial to remember that even though you may be sexually inclined, your roommate may not be. You should chat with your roommate during the first week of living together to set limits and better understand each other's lifestyles. You can send your roommate the questions if you haven't moved in yet and would prefer not to have the talk face-to-face.

Sharing your class schedules would be a good idea if the discussion has left you all unsure of when would be suitable times for some leisure. Much of the anxiety associated with using your toys in the room can be reduced by knowing when you or your roommate will have the space. Dorm rooms nearby are another factor to take into account when it comes to usage; if you are concerned that they might be able to hear you using a vibrator or watching porn, turn on some music and play it to drown out any sounds of pleasure you might produce.

Cleaning

Since most dorm rooms lack toilets, you will likely need to carry your toys down the hallway to use the restroom and clean them. At this point, a storage case or satin bag is invaluable. No one else would know you were hosting a party, so you could easily stroll through the hallways. For convenience, you can also store a bottle of toy cleaner with all your other products in your shower caddy while concealing the toys inside. To the untrained eye, the Lelo toy cleaner appears to be a high-end perfume or cologne spray, which is why I suggest. You can also use toy cleaning wipes if the thought of carrying your used sex toys around the halls makes you feel completely embarrassed.

Charging

Rechargeable sex toys must be kept charged, which might be challenging if you don't want to leave them out and about all day. To ensure that you never have to worry about your toys dying on you, creating a charging plan is definitely a good idea. This will allow you to set aside a specific weekly time to charge your toys. To have your roommate out and plugged in without worrying, I suggest scheduling a time when you are in the room and they are not. However, it is usually best to avoid doing it just before class. The last thing you want is to charge them on your desk as a welcome gift for your unwary roommate, only to discover that you will be late for class.

The DO NOTs

These are the most important things to avoid when using sex toys in a college dorm room.

1. Do NOT violate consent

Please don't use your toys without their permission when your roommate is present. Even though you might not be having sex with them, you are still having sex, and everyone involved must agree to it.

2. Do NOT leave toys out

Avoid leaving your toys in public areas like the restroom or hallway. For several reasons, you shouldn't exhibit your sex toys to the world, even if you are quite outspoken and public about using them.

People usually don't expect to see sex toys; you never know if someone is touching them; they can be stolen; and you don't want someone to take them to RA, believing that someone "lost them."

3. Do NOT share toys

Avoid sharing sex toys! People may approach you to ask questions if you are the only person on your floor or in your dorm who is aware of the wonders of the sex toy industry. You can discuss sex toys endlessly, but don't share them. Instruct them to get their own by traveling to Lion's Den.

4. Do NOT force conversation

Never make your roommate or anybody else feel awkward because of their sexual orientation. Everyone has varied sexual experiences, levels of education, and levels of exploration, and college serves as a reminder of this. Offer open communication and tools, but don't push them if they don't feel comfortable. Alternatively, you can ask to be placed in the dorm during times that work for you both. Make it clear that you will knock or text before entering the dorm if you need to return during this time.

Some Reminders

  • It is perfectly acceptable to masturbate, have sex, and feel pleasure even while you are in a dorm room.
  • Masturbation and sex toys are often free (once you have toys, that is) and can be a terrific way to release stress throughout college.
  • Talking about sexual matters with your roommate can be unpleasant, but I promise you that it will improve your living circumstances and academic experience.
  • If there is a physical Lion's Den store close to your school and you or a friend needs to buy sex toys, be sure to visit on Tuesdays since students receive 30% off when they present their student ID.
